Popular Tanning Accessories

The market for tanning extras registered a true boom a decade ago when the popularity of tanning beds and home lamps reached the peak. Everybody wanted to remain honey-skinned all year round, and all of a sudden that was within reach. Tanned skin looks great, but it is difficult to care for and rather hazardous to keep fit. Modern tanning equipment includes UV-free devices, particularly since the awareness of the health risks brought by traditional indoor tanning has made people change their mind from going to tanning parlors. The spray tanning booth was thus launched as a safer alternative, complemented by services that include skin hydration and anti-aging treatments as well as sunless prep applications and UV acceleration procedures.

For people interested in opening a tanning salon, low cost tanning equipment or special packages are the cheaper alternative to entering a franchise. There are companies that supervise every level of tanning equipment installation, software and management. Depending on the complexity of the systems, tanning equipment could be assisted by special softwares, but the costs for such programs are sometimes huge. Hence, the needs of a tanning salon vary from lamp replacements and timing systems to acrylic maintenance items, cleansers and all sorts of eye protections.

Second-hand tanning equipment has several disadvantages that any investor should be aware of. First of all, how technologically advanced is it? How well does the bed comply with the safety regulation in use? What could happen if the risks are not known or evaluated? The list of problematic issues could go on since used tanning equipment may hide lots of tricks and scams. Technical checking of the device you want to purchase remains a duty, unless the product already has a certification from a national authority. One other problem with used tanning equipment is that the life extent is lower if compared to brand new models.

Has government gone to far when your teen's tanning practice now needs a doctors note?

Can Tanning be healthy?

Ohio legislators want to tighten the restrictions on minors in tanning beds. Why? Well here’s some quick stats:

Long-term exposure to artificial sources of ultraviolet rays from uv bulbs in tanning beds (or to the sun’s natural rays) increases both men and women’s risk of developing skin cancer. In addition, exposure to tanning salon rays increases damage caused by sunlight because ultraviolet light actually thins the skin, making it less able to heal. Another fact is that UVA rays that are emitted from the Ultraviolet A light sources in tanning salons are two to three times more powerful than the UVA rays which occur naturally from the sun. Women, who use tanning beds more than once every 30 days, are 55 percent more likely to develop malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer.

According to the National Cancer Institute, more than one million people are diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer in the United States every year. As a matter of fact, non-melanoma skin cancer is the most often discovered cancer in the USA. Forty to 50 percent of Americans who live to age 65 will have this form of skin cancer at least once. These are surprising statistics for a cancer that can usually be preveneted.

The proposed bill would require minors to have a doctor’s note to go to a tanning booth.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 70% of people going under the UV bulbs are women ages 16-29. In Ohio, under the 2009 guidelines, minors need parental consent to use a tanning bed.

But voter appointed lawmakers in Ohio say for health reasons, they want to incorporate legislation requiring a doctor's note. This law does not apply to teens buying uv bulbs from the store for their parents ionic air purifier, just to tanning.

"There are certain medical conditions where the UV light can help, for example psoriasis, having said that, I personally would not. I'd have them see a dermatologist because it needs to be a measured dose that can be controlled," said Richard Cain, M.D., Family Practice Dr.

Dr. Cain says kids are more susceptible to toxins in your system than adults.

This is not the first attempt by Ohio legislators to get the bill into law.

Last year it bombed as commerce committee legislation.

This time it is a health bill & has a better chance of making it.

Do you think that it’s fair that teens would require a doctors note or is government overstepping it’s boundaries?
